He had heard the alarms at almost the same time he felt the flames and smelled the smoke, so of course, being up high on the roof tops of the near by buildings, Blaze was able to get to the apartment complex with ease, and once there, he sniffed out the apartment that was aflame.
Luckily it was a rare empty economy loft, the refrigerator, almost as old as the complex itself, the shorted out power-cord at last overheating and catching the old newspaper that had fallen behind it on fire, that plus all the dust and crumbling drywall, and in minuets, the fire was spreading...
As the alarms sounded and the old sprinkler system started to shudder and moan, trickles of water started to spurt out randomly in the affected apartment, and while the complex on a whole was fairly nice, the apartment in question was in one of the oldest parts of the main building.
"This way! Stay calm, I'll take care of it shortly! That's right, I'm here to help, no I don't bite, this way, follow the red lights!" Blaze worked his way through the crowd of people that lined the halls and filled the stairs, his large furry form striking only a few as odd, since this was after all Jump City, and one of the local born heroes was a green shape shifter named Beast Boy.
Soon Will was knocking on doors and calling out to make sure everyone was heading for the exits, before he got the the door of the apartment that was now burning, and starting to spread, his eyes glowing as he placed his hands on the warm door, the flames that licked up the kitchen wall, slowly turning blue, and then fading out until only smoke wisped about the empty and now scorched home...
Turning Blaze saw a young woman about his age walking away from him, a small baby over her shoulder, whimpering and tearing up at all the noise, but that's not what struck him about the sight. It was the barest glance he had gotten of the young girls profile, something hidden back among the pain of his past, was a name and face that went with that profile, a person that was important to him, a person that might hold a key to the last few memories of his past life.
It was for this reason he gave one last look down the hall behind him before he rushed forward to catch up with the girl, his hand reaching for her empty shoulder before his voice managed to crack out a call; "Excuse me... Miss? Are you okay?" he managed...
