[Entrance :: Ivanna]
Evening was quickly creeping across the sky. The beautiful blue of the sky had faded to the deep and dim indigo of night. The fluffy clouds had lost the oranges, purples, and pinks of sunset. The first pinprick light of stars had appeared in the ever darkening night. The street lights of the city were appearing in full force, shaming the slow stars.
Far above the changing city, flew a lonely figure. Her wings beat quickly as she moved as fast as possible. She was thousands of miles from the prison she had escaped from, but the fear trailed her. She knew they would be looking for her. The scientists may have wanted her dead, but they wanted her remains. More experiments.
She wasn't about to let them catch her. So, she ran. She had been flying every available moment, only stopping to rest when she had surpassed exhaustion. Between her wings and controlling the air currents, she had made good time. Yet, she knew it wasn't enough. There had to be somewhere she could disappear. Somewhere that she would be able to stay, at least long enough to figure out what it was she was doing. Besides which, she would need some kind of shelter before the new moon.
On top of the fact the dark terrified her, she knew that she wouldn't be able to travel much. The new moon signified the loss of her wings. She would need somewhere to hide. The pain of having her wings ripped from her would leave her weak for days. Then of course, she needed to be fully healed before venturing out amongst strangers. Too many questions, too many memories.
Her luck seemed to be holding the same way it ever had. No sooner had the idea of finding somewhere to hole up had entered her mind, then she felt the tearing sensation rippled across her back. Her wide eyes shot to the sky, searching frantically for the moon. Another wave of pain ricocheted through her as she realized the spot it should have been was an empty spot of darkness. She felt so stupid for a moment. The sky had been cloudy for the last couple of nights as she sped away from the lab. She had covered a lot of ground quickly, but hadn't thought about what time of month. In the lab, she had never known what time of day it was, much less the day of week, or the stage of the moon. It had only been the scientists strange interest in the fact that her wings had aligned themselves with the moon.
She knew she wouldn't have time to land. She called up the air with her last remaining strength, as she felt the final wrenching pain as her wings freed themselves from her back. A scream tore from her throat, the pain was almost unbearable, though nothing compared to what awaited her when she stopped falling. She was still going to fast. She would sustain almost mortal injuries and that would slow her recuperation that much more. Not too mention that she would be exposed for some time. There was nothing she could do about it now.The feathers drifted around her, buffeted by the same wind she had called up to slow her descent.
The sudden impact of her slim frame into the hard pavement caused her vision to swim. She fought against the blackness that strove to engulf her in unconsciousness. She couldn't pass out now. She forced herself to focus, choosing a single feather that was drifting slowly towards her.
Pushing herself up from the pavement, she let the tears stream down her face as she folded herself into a upright position. Sitting in the middle of the street, surrounded by feathers, she knew she made quite a sight. Now all she needed was for some normal person to walk by and start the questions. As soon as they saw the blood that was slowly pooling around her, and found the source, two deep gushing gashes upon her back, they would cart her off to a hospital. It wouldn't take long for her to be found there. She couldn't let that happen. But she couldn't move either.[OPEN]
