Violet would never have said it aloud, but her mind answered his words before she realized it. With the deeper connection, he would hear it as if she had spoken. It was the direct result of the betrayal, and it hurt all the more once it was out.
I know you wouldn't. That's why it hurts so much that I can't trust you.
Being in her mind, he could probably tell that the can't meant that she was unable to, not that he didn't deserve her trust. She was mentally incapable of such total trust any more. She wanted to, but it was no longer part of her nature to completely trust people. But the sound of the door opening got her attention. What was he doing out of bed? He was supposed to be recovering, and here he was coming into her room because she was sobbing like some heartsick puppy.
The tears evaporated from her cheeks with a steamy hiss as she turned to look at him, but the sadness didn't leave her eyes.

Will blinked, his own tears still steaming away as they tried to run down his cheeks, his eyes now glowing a soft, pale blue as he looked at her and bit his lower lip then took a single tentative step inside the doorway, his injured knee still stiff but better than it had been in a few days, not that he was caring about that right now, in fact, his own feelings where simple at the moment, and purely emotional; He had an overpowering urge to scoop Violet up and just hug her tight, and tell her that it didn't matter, that he felt strongly for her, and wanted her to be safe, happy and loved, and for her to know that no matter what, that was the truth of it.
Before he realized it, he had walked up to the bed and sat next to her, his eyes deep and full of longing and sadness, not for himself, but for her, and how she felt, because now as clear as a noon day sun, Will could see, feel and hear her, her heartbeat, her breathing, her thoughts, and her feelings, and with a soft whisper that carried over everything, the link, his voice, and the warm air between them, he whispered to her softly as his hand came up and brushed her hair out of her face, his pale, almost gray baby blue eyes barely glowing, his dark complexioned face leaning in and tilted slightly, as he spoke to her in no uncertain terms: "Maybe not now... But one day perhaps... I'd be honored if you'd let me try and earn it Violet..." his eyes shimmered as he leaned in a little more and then breathed out slowly; "I trust you with my life, even when I don't trust myself, and as long as I'm breathing, and as long as able, I'll be around to fight by your side, and to protect you when needed, just as you do for me..."
Will then closed his eyes as the glow grew and his heart hammered in his ears, everything in him was trembling in awe of this girl, and something somewhere deep inside was begging to kiss her, to wrap her up in his arms and hold her, to sooth her and ease her fears, to tell her it was okay, and that nothing else mattered, but all that little romantic dynamo part of him got was to move his arms up and around her narrow slender frame and hug her close, a few last words slipping out into the room; "I don't blame you, betrayal is a dark and deadly thing, but respect is the first step towards trust, and trust that is proven to be strong is a mighty force, but it takes time, and if there's one thing I have, it's time... Please, I want to make you stronger Vi..."
As he spoke, he knew she could tell that he was on the level thanks to the link, and he also knew that she would understand just how he viewed her, not as some frail glass jawed girl, but as she was, a strong, young woman of morals, a warrior of honor, and a rare treasure to be cared for.
No some common street child she was not, and Will had known for a few days now that Violet was indeed his equal in more than a few ways, this beauty was everything he was and was not, and she had lacked for much of her life what she had likely needed most, what all girls needed; a strong and caring hand to protect, guide and help her, someone to share the adventure of life with and to understand her and be understood by her...

His entrance broke through her stupor at last, and she found herself hanging on his words, grasping at anything that could draw her out of this dark pit she felt like she was freefalling into. She could feel his own mind, which expressed the selflessness that characterized most of his actions in that the dominant emotions she felt there were empathetic, felt because he knew what she was feeling. His sincerity was in his openness, and no one could hide anything when the link was this profound.
She couldn't bring herself to look into his face, though. Despite everything she felt in his mind, she felt ashamed that anyone had seen her this way. Embarassed, no. She had the self-confidence to make it so that she didn't get embarassed. She didn't care what other people thought about her. Instead, the shame was directed inward. She didn't have patience with her own weaknesses. Her sensei's had taught her that the path to strength was in overcoming one's weaknesses. The emotion lasted less than an instant, as his words overrode that train of thought.
"No one knows how much time they have," she thought, the softly whispered words accompanied by flashes of her parents' faces, "but I'm willing to try. I want to be able to trust people again."
She followed his train of thought and got a clearer image of how he viewed her, something which she had guessed pretty accurately in the past, as it turned out. His mind didn't carry many surprises for someone who had been keeping as close of a watch over him as she had. Call it paranoia, call it being careful, but she always kept an eye on the people who entered her life until she felt that she understood them and could reliably predict how they would react in any given situation. Will was as straightforward as they came, but she knew that time would give her more insight.
She would've been fooling herself if she didn't admit that she had paid more attention to him than she would've the usual person...

Will pulled Violet a little closer and smiled softly, his eyes settling into a soft pale blue glow as a small smile formed on his lips and he leaned his head over, and lifted her chin to look into her eyes before he spoke; "I know, but you have carte blanche on all the time I do have, okay? You can trust me..." he reached down and squeezed her hand a bit and then leaned down and kissed her cheek softly, as her sweet warm scent filled his nose and he blushed slightly as he pulled back some and just smiled at her, happy at what had taken place today.
Really the depth of emotion he was feeling, was deeper than anything he could remember, and it was sweeter than any candy bar, and richer than anything he could think of, the depth of meaning behind it all was staggering, and he wouldn't have traded it for the world, this feeling, holding Violet like this, comforting her, feeling her body heat, hearing her heartbeat, and sensing her thoughts and emotions with the link,it was a feeling, and experience he thought he would never forget or be able to fully define and it was okay, because right now Violet needed this, she needed to know that he wasn't judging her, he was just being there for her, he was being what she needed, he was...
He was loving on her.
And deep down, he knew there was a part of her that knew he needed it as much as she did...

Violet leaned closer, resting her head on his shoulder. Her instincts were in conflict. On one hand, part of her was uneasy at being so close to another person, especially given the strength that she knew was in the muscles beneath the warm, fragrant skin. On the other hand, she felt inexplicably safe when she was this close to him, feeling the truth in his mind and knowing that he really did love her. She couldn't reconcile those two parts of her mind, but it soothed her to know that he was aware of that, and that he understood. It was so rare for her to encounter someone who was actually willing to take the time to figure her out, rather than taking one look at her and thinking that she was just some grungy gangbanger.
She also had known for a long time that he really needed people around him who would support and be there for him, considering that he was still going through a fairly rough time, given his recent discoveries and his memory loss. He needed to be there for her for himself almost as much as she needed him there. Strange as it was, they were perfect for each other. Strange because when they had first met, it had been by accident, and he had attacked her, under the control of Slade. Ah, well. C'est la vie. Life never went the way one expected.
"This is the first time anyone has been in here other than myself," she realized.
The room was pretty bland, not having a lot of personal items in it. There was a shelf with a very small supply of books, some in English, some not. Against the wall, there was a small television which faced the bed, and there was a plan black end table next to the bed with a thick white candle in the center, and nothing else. The decor was black with lavender accents, but she hadn't done much personalizing yet. She almost smiled. Why am I distracting myself? she wondered.

Will almost sighed in total contentment as she rested her head on his shoulder, the natural feel of it reminding him for a heartbeat of a happier and simpler time in his life, but that was then, and this was now, and now felt WAY better then the memory of then, and in a way, now felt more right than then ever did...
Hugging her a bit more he smiled to himself at her musings, and the confused conflict that was wandering about inside her, his smiled breaking into a soft laugh as he reached down and took her hand in his, and laced their fingers together, her small slender hand with long fingers fitting between his, his large palm, and long strong fingers gently closing around hers, the contrast in skin tone couldn't hide the matching of their powers, his body warmer than her naturally, but hers was held in by infinitely smoother and softer skin, which seemed to ooze warmth and energy like a cloud of mist exuded cold and wet, the contrast of the parallel, and the simplicity of the truth was not lost on him either.
"Hmm, really?" he said as he leaned his head over and rested it lightly on hers, the lavender and ash scent of her hair lulling him almost into a trance as he closed his eyes and smiled to himself. "Well, the doors still open, I don't think Robin could get mad or accuse us of anything, not that he should or... uhhmm... I don't know..." he blushed and felt his cheeks tingle slightly at his slight gaff, his meaning somehow sounding so much worse than he really meant, although he knew she would understand, he still felt rather silly for speaking without ANY forethought at all, something he rarely did, despite his rather short track record.
Shifting slightly Will turned and leaned back so he could look at Violet, and when he did he smiled, his hand slowly slipping from hers and raising up to her chin, so he could look into her eyes; he could see a kind of glow about her face, almost like she was feeling some kind of freedom or something, as if just the fact that she was trying, was liberating, and it made her lovely face all the more beautiful to him, and her eyes where now deeper and darker than ever...
He simply had to kiss her now.
Leaning in slowly, Will closed his eyes and gently, tentatively pressed his lips onto hers, his heart almost stopping at the sudden heat and tingle that flooded his mind and body as he felt her lips slanted across his own...

Violet's first reaction was simply shock. She had not been expecting that one at all. The strength of the negative emotions contrasted with these new emotions in the extreme, and she felt overwhelmed more than anything else. These were emotions that she hadn't felt in years, and the ties to them weren't pleasant in the least. But the emotions themselves were very pleasant. His wood and ash scent, his warmth, his mind... It was all rather intoxicating, and she found herself kissing him back. She loved the feeling of her lips against hers, even if she was silently and not-so-secretly freaking out in the back of her mind.
With the barrier she usually had around her mind and the rigid stolidity of her face, most people never would have guessed that her emotions were just as tempestuous as those of any other, maybe moreso. This experience was enlightening for the both of them. If she was capable of feeling this kind of joy, maybe there was hope for her after all. Maybe she could learn to trust him, and she could really be happy. It had been years since she'd had any hope for that.
As she pulled away at last, a smile broke onto her lips, and a small laugh. It was absolutely possible that it was the first time that he had heard her laugh, considering what lengths she went to in order to hide her emotions, and also considering the lack of real joy that she had been feeling for years. Although...she didn't really keep track of such things. She was a little too caught up in this new kind of freedom.

Will felt her pull away, and while a part of him didn't want the contact to ever end, he knew that it would be silly and rude to try and hold on, so he also leaned back and took a breath as he looked at her, and then blinked a moment before breaking into what he was sure was the biggest smile of his life at a simple sweet melodic sound: Violet softly laughing...
His eyes sparkled and his hand again found hers as he sat there and looked into her eyes, his own soft chuckle following her laugh as he beamed at her, that irrepressible little boy part of him shining through as he fought the happy blush that tinged his cheeks, her soft and warm lavender lilac and ashy scent tingled his nose pleasantly and tickled his insides softly, almost like her soft hand seemed to tickle his own hand the skin on skin contact was blissful for the minimally experienced boy.
Even as the memories of Destiny, hugging his neck and kissing his cheek poked at him, he was still swept up in this moment, the sadness that was attached to Destiny sitting in the back of his mind like a post-it-note, reminding him that he had once cared for someone, and that they had been taken from him...
But then what of now? Now he was a hero, and so was Violet, they both where very powerful, and careful, well, he was some times, but she was always careful, and they looked out for each other, and that was a plus, and... Well, it had to be different this time right?
Will smiled at her and then looked at their hands and sighed; "I... I haven't felt this hopeful, this, good in a long time..." he looked up at her again and gave a soft thankful smile to her as he whispered, tears forming in is eyes; "Thanks Violet..."

"I should thank you," she murmured, looking down. "I didn't think I was still capable of this kind of..."
She trailed off, unable to finish the thought, overcome by a wave of fear for him as she heard his thoughts. Her fears for him were stronger than her fears for herself, and with Slade having staked a claim on both of their lives, her fears were far from ill-founded. She could only trust that he would be careful, even if caution went against his usual modus operandi. She didn't fully understand how he could share some of those same misgivings and still be as calm as he was, but she didn't ponder it too deeply. She leaned in against him, feeling the blissful warmth of his skin against her own, even through her shirt. Even with all of her fears, she felt like it was enough, it was all worth it if this was all she got in the trade--loving and being loved for just this moment.
If she could just learn how to trust again, this would be perfect. She loved him, that much was certain. What she didn't know is whether or not she would be able to fully trust him, and get past her suspicious nature. For now, she would just have to settle for quieting her mind and letting herself enjoy the moment. She wasn't very good at just letting go and allowing herself to feel what she felt. Years of self-denial can do that to a person. Still, Will's presence was calming, and it undeniably made her feel safer. She could feel that pure essence deep within his inner flame, the one that she had first noticed on their first encounter, but it was a lot more noticible these days, now that he was denying the darker side of himself.
"I'm glad you're here," she told him, breathing in his woodsey scent.

Will wrapped an arm around Violet as she leaned on him, the warmth of her body seeming to feed him, the sound of her heartbeat, smaller, a step faster than his, even at rest, was strong, and vital, and with her soft sweet and warm scent, it just felt good to hold her, and feel her close like this, to forget for just a few moments that the world wasn't all sunny days and star filled eyes, and while there was that ever present tickle at the back of his mind that there was violence and danger out there, and some of it was going to be sooner rather than later, and there was an unfair amount of it with their names on it all, but that didn't worry him, not now, because right now, she was with him, and together they where stronger, they where faster, they where better, and above all, they where safe, and that was what mattered to him most, her safety, her life...
His was forfeit if thats what it took to keep her safe, to keep the city safe, to make up for all he had done, he was willing to give his last breath, and every drop of blood for her, in the hope that she would be justified for her giving him that second chance, and for trying to love again, for reaching out, and loving him, when he hardly deserved it.
Giving her a squeeze, Will sighed and then nuzzled her cheek and kissing it lightly before he smiled and whispered to her; "It's okay, I think we're thanking each other just by, being close, and offering some comfort hmm? And I'm glad you're here too Vi." he said before he reached down and lifted her chin up to face her, eye to eye, his pale steely blue eyes deep and soft, as he looked into her dark blue orbs and then closed his eyes, his lips pressing into hers softly at first, then a bit harder as he kissed her, the need for that last little bit of deep connection, pulling his mouth down onto hers for a long, soft and deep kiss that sent tingles to every corner of his body and made his toes curl some, the connections they had now where all fully open and flowing with emotions and feelings, soft and rich...

Violet closed her eyes, her hand roaming up his chest as her lips moved under his. She loved how safe she felt with him, but at the same time there was a recklessness in the kiss which was fitting to two pyros. Like a fire, warm and devouring, wild and old as time itself, but renewed with every flicker of light. It was as appropriate a metaphor as there ever was, and she could feel her inner flame flaring in sync with his own. It was as good a feeling as she had ever felt, to be so perfectly matched with someone she loved this way. After what seemed to be a perfect eternity, she pulled away.
She rested her forehead against his, her eyes still closed, a small smile on her face.
"Yeah," she agreed. "This is plenty."
She wondered vaguely if he realized that his own conviction was one that she shared, to give all of herself for his protection, and that of Tim. This kind of loyalty had always been ingrained in herself, from the days of St. Louis until and including this relationship. She gave no less than her best, and if more blood was required to keep this connection, it was a price she would gladly pay. Nothing would take it away from her, not again. Slade would not do something like that to either of them, not if she had something to say about it.
Still, something within her warned that the worst was yet to come. It would take all of their combined strength to make it through what was about to happen, but they would face whatever it was together.

Head slightly spinning and his lips burning sweetly, William hummed lightly just before the kiss ended and he could looked back into her eyes a moment, his cheeks tinted lightly and his heart beating a slightly faster, harder beat than normal, his inner flame dancing and pulsing in time with hers, causing an almost hypnotic like state for the Angelic Lycan, his senses both dulled and sharpened all at once: dulled to the noise of the outside world, and sharpened to everything in this very room, namely the girl he was holding and kissing...
Will smiled at her and as he rested back on her bed, holding her partly on top of himself before he brushed some of her hair back, and just looked at her, his eyes holding a tiny glow in them, his skin almost hot to the touch, and his mind swimming about in the sweet pleasantness this moment, the smell of flowers and sunshine mixing with peppermint candy's and cinnamon rolls as he blushed, her forehead resting on his, his lips aching for hers to touch him just once more, his arms wrapped around her protectively as he settled down under her, her slight weight a comfort, just as much as her warmth, her scent and of course, the very sight of her, which pulled and poked at the well hidden and chained parts of him that his father had passed down, and which now urged him to move his lips forward once more, his mouth pressing into hers as he pulled her up more on top of him, his arms holding her as tight as he dared as he hummed softly, and spoke to her through the link: "I love you Violet... With all my heart..."
And it was true, and it was also the thing that made Will the most worried; if Slade ever figured out the depth if their relationship, he would stop at nothing to either kill her or him if not both of them, because of all that he had repressed as far as memories went, he could clearly remember one thing: Slade had no room for duplicates, mistakes, and hindrances to his plans...
But that thought slowly melted in the sea of good vibrations, gentle feelings and love that washed over the Empathic Pyro as he held her and kissed her there, his brain geltly reminding him that he was low on over all energy, and that since he felt so gosh darn good, this would be the perfect time to fall asleep and rest, and so after some internal protesting, William drifted off, his lips having moved from Violet's lips to her cheek and jaw, his embrace still firm and loving, even when he fell into the deepest and most restful state he had ever been in, in the arms of his girl...
